Beyond the Anxious Thoughts

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Anxious thoughts can be overwhelming, making it hard to focus on the present moment.

Jesus teaches us to focus on today, not tomorrow. He says each day has enough trouble of its own, so we shouldn't add tomorrow's worries to today's.

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Matthew 6:25-33

Worrying doesn't add anything to our lives, but it can take away our peace and joy. We need to learn to let go of anxious thoughts and focus on the present moment.

So, what can we do when anxious thoughts come? We can acknowledge them, but not let them control us. We can choose to focus on our breath, on the present moment, and on God's presence with us.

God, I feel overwhelmed by anxious thoughts. Help me to focus on the present moment, to trust in your presence with me, and to let go of worries about tomorrow. Amen.

When this hits in real life.
