Beyond the Checklist of Life

We make lists for everything. Grocery lists, to-do lists, bucket lists. But what about the things that don't fit on a list? What about the moments that feel pointless or the days that feel empty?

The idea that our purpose is tied to our productivity can be overwhelming. It's like we're constantly asking ourselves, 'Am I doing enough?'

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith,and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Ephesians 2:8-10

The word 'handiwork' is interesting. It implies something beautiful, something crafted with care. Not just a checklist of tasks, but a work of art.

Maybe our purpose isn't just about what we do, but about who we are. Maybe it's about the way we show up in the world, the way we love people, the way we take care of ourselves.

God, I feel like I'm just trying to keep up most days. Help me remember that my worth, my purpose, isn't tied to my to-do list. Help me see the beauty in the in-betweens, the moments that don't fit on a list. Amen.
