Finding Your People in the Inbetween

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing.

Have you ever felt like you're stuck between two worlds, not quite belonging in either one? Maybe you've moved to a new city, or started a new job, or just feel like you're in a season of transition.

The Psalmist writes about God setting the lonely in families. This isn't just about physical families, but about finding your people, your tribe, your sense of belonging.

Father to the fatherless, defender of widows, this is God, whose dwelling is holy. God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing.

Psalm 68:5-6

Notice that this verse doesn't say God only sets the perfect, or the put-together, in families. It says the lonely. The ones who feel like they don't quite fit.

If you're feeling like you're in the inbetween, like you don't quite belong, take heart. You're not alone. And God is a God who specializes in taking the lonely, and setting them in families.

God, I feel like I'm stuck in the inbetween, like I dont quite belong. Help me to trust that you're a God who sets the lonely in families. Give me the courage to take a step towards belonging, even if it feels scary. Amen.
