Practicing Self-Control in Chaotic Times

Written by

“Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.”

Life can get chaotic. One minute you're handling things, the next, everything feels out of control. That's where self-control comes in, not as a way to suppress emotions, but to navigate them wisely.

The book of Proverbs talks about self-control in a very practical way. It's not about being perfect; it's about being present and mindful in the midst of chaos.

“Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.”

Proverbs 25:28

This verse doesn't shame lack of self-control; it highlights the importance of it. Just like a city needs walls for protection, we need self-control to protect our minds, hearts, and actions from the breaches of chaos.

So, what does practicing self-control look like? It looks like taking a deep breath before reacting, setting boundaries to protect your time and energy, and choosing your battles wisely.

God, I feel overwhelmed. I need your help to find self-control in the chaos. Help me to be mindful, to take a step back, and to choose wisely. I don't want to be controlled by my emotions or circumstances. I want to be controlled by your Spirit. Amen.

When this hits in real life.
