Slowing Down to Hear God

Written by

“Be still and know that I am God;”

In a world that's always on the go, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle. But what if slowing down was the key to hearing God's voice?

The Psalmist writes, 'Be still and know that I am God.' This isn't just a suggestion, it's a command. God is saying, 'Stop, be still, and listen.'

“Come and see what the LORD has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.”

Psalm 46:8-11

So what does it mean to be still? It means putting down our phones, turning off the TV, and finding a quiet spot to listen. It means being intentional about creating space for God to speak.

When we slow down, we start to hear God's voice in the silence. We start to feel his presence, and we start to understand his plan. We start to see that he is with us, and that he is our refuge.

God, I'm tired of rushing through life. I want to slow down and hear your voice. Help me be still and know that you are God. Amen.

When this hits in real life.
