Slowly Unfolding Promises

Written by

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”

Patience is not a natural disposition for most of us. We live in a world where speed and instant gratification are the norms. Yet, the Bible constantly talks about waiting on God, being patient, and trusting in His timing.

The Psalmist writes, 'Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.' This is not a suggestion but a command. It's easy to overlook the word 'still' in this context. Being still is not about inactivity but about quieting our souls before God.

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret,it leads only to evil.”

Psalm 37:7-8

Waiting patiently does not mean we are inactive. It means we trust God's promises and timing. It's about understanding that our ways are not His ways, and our timing is not His timing. So, how do we cultivate this patience in a world that screams for speed?

One way is to focus on God's character. He is a God who keeps His promises. Every promise in the Bible is yes and amen in Christ. So, when we feel like we're in a waiting season, we can look back at how God has fulfilled His promises in the past and trust that He will do so again.

God, I confess that patience is hard for me. Help me to be still before you, to trust in your promises, and to wait patiently for your timing. I know you are a God who keeps your promises, and I trust that you will fulfill them in my life. Amen.

When this hits in real life.
