The Comparison Spiral

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else.

You opened the app to check one thing. Forty minutes later you're convinced your life is small and everyone else's is happening.

Comparison wasn't invented by Instagram. Paul named it 2,000 years ago.

Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load.

Galatians 6:4-5

Notice the phrase: their own load. Not the load you imagine they have based on a Story. Their actual load, which you don't see.

The thing about comparison is that it requires bad data. You compare your inside to their outside. Your bloopers to their highlight reel. Of course the math feels impossible.

The way out isn't 'try harder to feel okay about yourself.' It's 'put the phone down and look at your actual life.' Different starting point.

God, the scroll is loud. The comparisons are loud. Help me see my own life again. Help me celebrate other people without measuring myself against them. Amen.
