The Unspoken Rules of Anger
Written by OJ Aihie
Key Verse · Ephesians 4:26-27 (NIV)
“In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”
Anger is a feeling we're often taught to suppress or deny, but it's a natural part of being human. The problem arises when we don't know how to deal with it in a healthy way.
The Bible doesn't tell us to never be angry, but to be angry and not sin. This means acknowledging our anger and finding ways to express it that don't hurt ourselves or others.
“In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”
This verse gives us two important guidelines for dealing with anger: don't let it lead you into sin, and don't let it linger. Both of these guidelines require self-awareness and intentionality.
So what does it look like to acknowledge and deal with our anger in a healthy way? It starts with recognizing the things that trigger our anger and finding constructive ways to express it.
