When Cravings Feel Like a Loop

Key Verse · 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
Addiction feels like a loop you can't break. You know the pattern, you see the damage, yet the next hour pulls you right back in.
Paul wrote his letter to the Corinthians while he was under house arrest in Rome. He had just survived a shipwreck, a plague, and constant persecution. Yet he still warned believers about cravings that lead to ruin.
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
The promise isn't "you won't feel the urge". It's "there will be an exit strategy". That might be a therapist, a support group, a medication adjustment, or simply a trusted friend who calls when you hit a trigger.
Your brain chemistry is real. Addiction is a medical condition, not a moral failure. Take that seriously. If you haven't already, consider professional help. It doesn't make you weak; it makes you wise.
Start small. When a craving hits, pause. Breathe. Name the feeling. Then choose one concrete step: call a sponsor, walk a block, or write down the thought and toss the paper. Each choice builds a new path.
