When Grief Feels Like a Blank Page

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the source of every comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Grief lands like a sudden whiteout. One moment you have a plan, the next you can barely see the road. It's not just sadness. It's a whole body reaction, tight chest, numb fingers, endless replay of moments that now feel fragile.

Paul wrote his comfort letter from a house of worship that was under siege. Corinth was a bustling city, yet the believers faced famine, persecution, and personal loss. His words come from a place of real hurt, not a polished sermon.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the source of every comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Notice the phrase "in all our troubles." It's not "in some" or "when we feel like it." The comfort is meant for every broken thing, even the ones that feel unshareable. That's why God gives us comfort first, so we can later pass it on.

You don't have to be okay to accept comfort. You can sit with a therapist, take medication, set boundaries with people who demand your energy. Those are the practical ways God's comfort shows up.

God, my heart feels empty and heavy at once. I don't know how to put this into words. I ask for your comfort to settle in the cracks, for me to feel enough to breathe. Help me hold that peace enough to be a quiet bridge for another hurting soul. Amen.
