Beyond the Checklist of Life

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

You've probably been given a lot of advice on how to live a meaningful life. Checklists, to-do lists, and five-year plans. But what if your purpose isn't something you find, it's something you uncover?

The Bible says we're God's handiwork, created to do good works. Not because we have to, but because we get to.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:8-10

Notice it doesn't say 'to do great things' or 'to achieve success.' It says 'to do good works.' Sometimes that means showing up for a friend, sometimes it means pursuing a dream.

Your purpose is not a destination, it's a journey. It's the small, quiet moments, not just the loud, public ones.

God, I don't want to just go through the motions. I want to live a life that matters. Help me uncover my purpose, not just find it. Help me see the good works you've prepared for me, and give me the courage to start small. Amen.

When this hits in real life.
