Comfort in the Inbetween Moments

Written by

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you.”

Life is full of inbetween moments: after a breakup but before healing, during a health crisis but before diagnosis, after a move but before settling in.

These moments can feel like limbo, where we're not sure what's next or how to feel.

“But now, this is what the Lord says - he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: 'Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;'”

Isaiah 43:1-3

Isaiah 43 reminds us that God is present in these inbetween moments, even when we can't see what's ahead.

He promises to be with us as we pass through the waters and walk through the fire, and that's a comfort we can cling to.

God, I'm stuck in this inbetween moment, and I don't know what's next. But I know you're with me. Help me feel your presence, even when the future is uncertain. Comfort me in the waiting, and give me faith to trust you. Amen.

When this hits in real life.
