Learning to Heal in the Inbetween

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

“Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.”

Healing is not always linear. It's not always quick. Sometimes it's the slow, painful process of learning to live with the scars, and finding a way to make them a part of your story.

David wrote Psalm 30 from a place of deep pain, and deeper healing. He didn't write it from a mountaintop, but from the valley, where the healing was still in progress.

“Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me. Lord, you brought me up from the grave; you spared me from going down into the pit.”

Psalm 30:2-3

The word 'healed' here doesn't mean 'made perfect.' It means 'made whole.' It means taking the broken pieces, and making something new, and beautiful, out of them.

Healing is not about erasing the past, but about integrating it into your present, and your future. It's about learning to see yourself, and your story, in a new light.

God, I'm still in the inbetween, still healing, still learning. Help me to see my scars as a part of my story, and to find a way to make them beautiful. Help me to trust that you are making me whole, even when it doesn't feel like it. Amen.

When this hits in real life.
