The Day After the Breakup

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

The day after a breakup is its own kind of awful. You wake up and remember. The body remembers before the brain catches up.

Here's something Scripture knows that wellness influencers usually don't: healing is slow and physical.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Psalm 147:3

The phrase 'binds up' is medical. Hands-on. Wrapping a wound that needs to stay covered while it knits. It implies care that takes time.

You don't need to be 'over it' by next week. You don't need to find the lesson today. The wound deserves to be bound up, slowly, gently, with someone tending it.

God isn't rushing you. Don't rush yourself.

God, my chest hurts and my head's heavy. I keep replaying it. I don't know how to stop. Bind up this wound, slowly, in your time. Send me people who don't rush me. Amen.
