When Doubt Feels Like Static

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, 'I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!'

You notice the static when you scroll through life: a low hum of questions, a flicker of "what if?" It can feel like your faith is buffering.

Mark records this moment in a remote region of ancient Galilee. A father brings his son to Jesus, begging for healing. The crowd is watching, the pressure is real.

Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, 'I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!'

Mark 9:24

The father doesn't say "I have no doubt." He says he believes, but he also asks for help with the part that won't shut off. He names the tension instead of pretending it's gone.

Jesus' response is a miracle, not a lecture about perfect faith. He meets the father where he is, static and all.

If doubt is humming in your ears, pause. Write down the exact thought that feels most stuck. Then, like a prayer request, hand it over. No need to fix it. Just acknowledge it.

God, I'm sitting in the static. I believe enough to ask for help with the parts that feel broken. Meet me in this uncertainty, give me patience for the waiting, and let your presence be louder than my doubt. Amen.
