Who You Are Beyond the Roles

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.

You wear a lot of labels. Student. Intern. Influencer. Caregiver. Each one comes with expectations, checklists, and the fear of dropping the mask.

Jeremiah wasn't a college kid, nor a TikTok star. He was a reluctant teenager in a corrupt temple. Yet God called him by name before he even existed.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.

Jeremiah 1:5

The ancient context matters. Jeremiah lived under a conquering empire. His identity was under attack from the outside and from his own people.

God's reply to his doubts wasn't "just be confident". It was "I know you before you even breathed". That changes the conversation.

Your worth isn't a résumé item. It's a fact God declared before you ever tried on a job title or a relationship role.

God, I feel tangled in the expectations of my titles. I need to hear that I was known before any label. Help me rest in the fact that my identity is rooted in you, not my résumé. Amen.
