Bible Verses for Waiting on God

Waiting seasons can make faithful people feel forgotten. Scripture refuses that story. From Psalm 27:14 to Habakkuk 2:3, the Bible treats delay as a place for courage, quiet hope, and trust that God hears you.

Psalm 27:14

,NIV
“Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.”

David repeats the call to wait, pairing it with courage rather than collapse.

Say this verse twice when anxiety pushes you to force an answer today.

Isaiah 40:31

,NIV
“but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Hope in the LORD renews strength for soaring, running, and ordinary walking.

Ask God for strength to walk through this waiting day, not only for a dramatic breakthrough.

Lamentations 3:25-26

,NIV
“The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.”

In grief and ruin, Jeremiah still names quiet waiting as good.

Practice one quiet minute of seeking God without refreshing your inbox or messages.

Psalm 37:7

,NIV
“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”

Stillness and patient waiting are set against fretting over others' timelines.

When comparison fuels your wait, put the phone down and be still for sixty seconds.

Romans 8:25

,NIV
“But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.”

Paul links unfinished hope with patient waiting, not instant delivery.

Name one hoped-for thing you do not yet have, and ask God for patience with it.

Habakkuk 2:3

,NIV
“For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.”

God's timing can linger without being false. The call is still to wait.

Write 'appointed time' next to the delay that feels late. Trust it is not forgotten.

Micah 7:7

,NIV
“But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.”

Micah chooses watchful hope even when surroundings look bleak.

Tell God out loud: my God will hear me. Then wait without shutting down prayer.

Psalm 130:5-6

,NIV
“I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the LORD more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.”

Whole-being waiting is paired with hope in God's word, like watchmen sure morning comes.

Read one promise from Scripture tonight the way a watchman watches for morning.

Biblical waiting is not passive numbness. It is active trust that God hears you even when the calendar stays blank.

Common questions.

What does the Bible say about waiting on God?

Scripture calls people to wait for the LORD with strength and hope. Psalm 27:14, Isaiah 40:31, and Lamentations 3:25-26 treat waiting as trust, not wasted time.

Is waiting the same as doing nothing?

No. Biblical waiting includes prayer, seeking God, hope in his word, and faithful next steps while you refuse to force outcomes God has not given.

Why does God make me wait?

Habakkuk 2:3 says revelation has an appointed time. Delay can linger without being false. Waiting forms trust that instant answers cannot.

How do I wait without anxiety?

Practice stillness before the LORD (Psalm 37:7), renew strength in hope (Isaiah 40:31), and remember God hears you (Micah 7:7).

Which verse helps when the wait feels endless?

Psalm 27:14 and Habakkuk 2:3.
