Beneath the Noise of Uncertainty

Doubt can be a lot like white noise. It's always there, humming in the background, making it hard to focus on anything else.

The prophet Isaiah wrote to a people in exile, people who had every reason to doubt. They were surrounded by the noise of uncertainty, the constant reminder that they were not in control.

“But now, this is what the LORD says, he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead.”

Notice what God doesn't say. He doesn't say the waters will disappear, or the rivers will stop flowing, or the fire will cease to exist. He says he will be with you, even in the midst of it all.

Doubt may be loud, but it's not the only voice. There's a quieter voice, one that whispers 'you are mine' beneath the noise of uncertainty.
