Beneath the Surface of Our Outbursts

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.

We've all been there: something triggers us, and before we know it, we're in a full-blown rage. But what's really going on beneath the surface of our outbursts?

The Bible doesn't tell us to never get angry. It tells us not to sin in our anger. There's a difference.

In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.

Ephesians 4:26-27

It's not about suppressing our emotions or pretending everything is fine when it's not. It's about being honest with ourselves and with God about what's really going on.

So, what's beneath the surface of your anger? Is it hurt, fear, or frustration? Whatever it is, God can handle it.

God, I'm angry, and I don't know why. Help me dig deeper, to find the real issue. Give me the courage to face it, and the wisdom to deal with it in a way that honors you. Amen.

When this hits in real life.
