Exhausted, But Not Forgotten

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

“"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."”

Burnout is not just a state of mind, it's a state of being. It's the feeling of being completely drained, physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Jesus' words in Matthew 11:28-30 are not just a gentle invitation, they're a promise of rest. Not a rest that comes from escaping our problems, but a rest that comes from embracing them with a new perspective.

“"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."”

Matthew 11:28-30

The concept of a 'yoke' is important here. A yoke is a wooden beam that distributes the weight of a burden evenly, allowing two animals to pull together in harmony. Jesus is offering to share our burdens, to distribute the weight evenly, so we can find rest.

So, what does this mean for us? It means we don't have to carry the weight of burnout alone. We can come to Jesus, share our burdens with him, and find rest.

God, I'm exhausted. I feel like I'm drowning in my responsibilities, my emotions, my thoughts. Help me come to you, share my burdens with you, and find rest. Remind me that your yoke is easy and your burden is light. Amen.

When this hits in real life.
