Finding Calm in the Chaos

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Life can get overwhelming. One minute you're managing, the next, everything feels like too much. That's where Jesus' words come in, an invitation to find calm in the chaos.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

Notice Jesus doesn't say 'come to me when you've got it all together.' He says 'come to me when you're weary and burdened.' That's an invitation for the messy, the overwhelmed, the ones who are barely holding on.

The concept of a 'yoke' might seem old-fashioned, but essentially, it's about partnership. Jesus is offering to share the load, to walk with you through the chaos, and to teach you how to find rest in the midst of it.

God, I'm tired of trying to manage everything on my own. I'm weary of the chaos. Help me learn to come to you, to take your yoke upon me, and to find rest in you. I trust you're gentle and humble in heart, and that with you, my burden can be light. Amen.
