If Getting Out of Bed Was a Win

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

All at once an angel touched him and said, 'Get up and eat.' He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water.

Elijah, one of the Old Testament's most powerful prophets, has just performed a public miracle. The next chapter, he's hiding under a bush, asking God to let him die.

What does God do? No lecture. No 'you should be grateful.' No 'snap out of it.'

All at once an angel touched him and said, 'Get up and eat.' He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water… Then he lay down and slept again.

1 Kings 19:5-7

Food. Water. Sleep. Repeat. That's the divine prescription. Then more food. Then a long, quiet conversation, weeks later, on a mountain.

If today felt impossible, and you're reading this, that's already movement. The angel-of-the-Lord version of progress is sometimes just a meal. Sometimes just sleep. Sometimes just five minutes of fresh air.

You aren't being lazy. You're being human. The Bible takes that seriously.

God, today felt impossible. I don't have words. I don't have energy. I'm taking the bread and water version of grace today, just enough to keep going. Meet me in the small. Amen.
