When Faith Feels Like a Flicker

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

You opened this page because something feels off. Maybe you prayed and heard silence. Maybe a friend posted a perfect life and yours feels dim. Faith can feel like a tiny spark in a dark room.

Hebrews was written for a community wrestling with persecution. The author, likely Paul, gathered stories of people who trusted God despite no rescue in sight. It wasn't a feel-good pep talk. It was a lifeline.

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Hebrews 11:1

Notice the words confidence and assurance. They aren't feelings that pop up when you watch a sunrise. They are actions you take when you can't see the outcome.

You can practice that confidence in tiny ways. Turn on a light switch even when the room feels empty. Write down one small thing you still hope for, even if it's just a good night's sleep.

The Bible doesn't promise that every doubt disappears. It says the people in Hebrews kept moving forward, step by step, because they trusted the One who had already shown up for them before.

God, my faith feels tiny right now. I can't see the whole picture, but I want to trust the part I can hold. Help me turn on the little lights, take the small steps, and feel your presence in the cracks. Amen.
