When the Pieces Don't Fit Anymore

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. Lord, I wait for you; you will answer, Lord my God.

Heartbreak can feel like a puzzle with missing pieces. You're left with fragments of memories, emotions, and questions.

David wrote Psalm 38 in a time of great pain. He wasn't just sad; he was crushed.

I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. Lord, I wait for you; you will answer, Lord my God.

Psalm 38:8-9

Notice David's words: 'I wait for you.' He's not demanding answers. He's not trying to fix the pieces. He's waiting.

Waiting is hard. It feels passive. But it's not. Waiting is an act of trust. It's saying, 'God, I don't have the pieces, but I trust you do.'

God, I'm broken. I don't know how to put the pieces back together. I'm waiting for you. I trust that you have the pieces, even when I don't. Meet me in the waiting. Amen.
