When the Unknown Feels Overwhelming

Fear can be a paralyzing thing, can't it? It's the unknown that gets us, the what-ifs that keep us up at night.

The people of Israel knew a thing or two about fear. They were a nation of ex-slaves, wandering in the desert, trying to find their way to a promised land.

“But now, this is what the Lord says - he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: 'Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior'”

Notice what God doesn't say. He doesn't say 'you won't face any challenges.' He doesn't say 'you'll never be scared.' He says 'I'll be with you.'

That's the promise we cling to when the unknown feels overwhelming. Not that we won't face any fires or rivers, but that we won't face them alone.
