When the Weight of Responsibility Feels Like Too Much

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

You know the feeling: your to-do list is endless, your deadlines are looming, and your mind is racing. It's like the weight of the world is on your shoulders.

Jesus' words in Matthew 11 are not a magic solution to make all your problems disappear. But they are an invitation to reframe how you think about your responsibilities.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30

A 'yoke' was a farming tool that distributed the weight of the load evenly. It's not about removing the weight, but about sharing it.

What if you didn't have to carry everything alone? What if you could learn to share the weight with God?

God, I'm tired of carrying this alone. I'm tired of feeling like I'm drowning in responsibilities. Help me learn to share the weight with you. Give me rest for my soul. Amen.

When this hits in real life.
