Your Worth Is Not a Likes Count

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: 'I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.'

Scrolling through a feed, you see numbers flashing. Likes, hearts, views. When the count drops, it feels like a personal failure. That feeling isn't new. The Bible calls it a modern version of the ancient human craving for approval.

Jeremiah wrote his words around 600 BC, after the Babylonian exile. The Israelites had just lost their temple, their land, their identity. Yet God reminded them they were loved forever, not because of what they'd built, but because of who they were to Him.

The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: 'I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.'

Jeremiah 31:3

Everlasting love isn't a follower count. It's a constant, unearned invitation. It doesn't fluctuate with algorithms. It's the baseline of your value, even when you feel invisible.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't care about growth or improvement. It means you start from a place of worth that isn't earned. You can set boundaries with social media, limit scrolling, or mute accounts that trigger comparison.

If you're struggling with self-worth, try this: write down three ways you are loved that have nothing to do with performance. It could be a parent's hug, a friend's text, or the fact that God's love is described as 'everlasting.' Keep that list where you can see it.

God, I'm tired of letting numbers decide how I feel about myself. Help me rest in the love you declared centuries ago, a love that doesn't depend on my performance. Teach me to see my worth through your eyes, not a screen. Amen.
