Learning to Pause in the Inbetween

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

Waiting is hard. It feels like being stuck in neutral, like the world is moving and you're not. But what if waiting isn't just about passing time, but about being present?

David wrote Psalm 27 in a tough spot. He was on the run, hiding from people who wanted him dead. And yet, he says 'wait for the Lord.' Not 'run' or 'fight' or 'hide,' but 'wait.'

“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

Psalm 27:13-14

Waiting doesn't mean you're weak or lazy. It means you're choosing to trust that God is working, even when you can't see it. It means you're taking a deep breath, and saying 'I will wait, because I trust you, God.'

So, what does it look like to wait well? It looks like taking a step back, and saying 'I don't have all the answers, but I trust that God does.' It looks like being still, and listening for His voice.

God, waiting is hard for me. I want to rush ahead, to fix things, to make it happen. But I'm choosing to wait, to trust that you're working, even when I don't see it. Help me to be strong, to take heart, and to wait for you. Amen.

When this hits in real life.
