When the Future Feels Uncertain, But Hope Remains

Written by

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

The future can feel overwhelming. It's easy to get caught up in the what-ifs and maybes. But what if hope wasn't just a feeling, but a choice?

The Israelites were in exile, feeling hopeless and uncertain about their future. But God spoke to them through Jeremiah, reminding them that He had plans to prosper them, not harm them.

“For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Jeremiah 29:11-13

Hope isn't the absence of uncertainty, but the presence of God in the midst of it. It's choosing to trust that God has a plan, even when we can't see it.

So what does it look like to choose hope today? It might mean taking a step into the unknown, even if it feels scary. It might mean trusting that God is working, even when we can't see it.

God, I feel uncertain about the future. I don't know what's ahead. But I choose to trust you, to trust that you have plans to prosper me, not harm me. Give me hope and a future. Help me seek you with all my heart. Amen.

When this hits in real life.
